Join South Florida's leading belly dance expert, Jihan, as she teaches an authentic Milaya Leff dance.In this 1 ½ hour class, Jihan will teach her own brand of Egyptian Baladi (Popular) dance move technique basics, and will then incorporate the Milaya (a type of shawl) Leff (means “wrap”) used in this flirtatious “character” dance. Traditionally the origins of this dance are attributed to Alexandria, Egypt, by the Mediterranean Sea (thus the use of the short dresses that you may be familiar with) and is performed to specific music. Jihan likes to perform and teach the Cairene version, which can be performed in a galabeyia of “baladi” dress and can be performed to most style of baladi/shabby, upbeat music.
If you do not have a Milaya wrap, a long veil is fine to use.
In Egypt there’s a dance for just about any reason and tradition – The Milaya is one that is a lot of fun! But don’t be fooled – it is still a cultural art form and creative movement and requires knowledge and technique!
Jihan will have a selection of music you can use for the Milaya Leff available.
